## GST State Code List -

The Goods and Services Tax Identification Number ([**GSTIN**](/introduction-1/gstin-goods-and-services-tax-identification-number.md)) is a 15-digit alphanumeric different identification number provided to a taxpayer who registered under the GST.

The 15 digit ID contains – 2 digits signifying the state code; 10 digit PAN number; 1 digit signifying some registrations; and 2 digits having default and checksum values.

Businesses need to know about the GST state code list. This state code list under GST is prescribed as per the Indian Census of 2011 and is as follows:
